Northeast Vegan Chow Down - Corn Chowder

Winter is upon us and so is the craving for delicious, homemade soup! What is a vegan on a budget to do? Vegan soup recipes do not have to be time consuming and include numerous ingredients to be delicious. Below is a quick corn chowder recipe that is quick to warm you up during those cold winter months.

  • 2 cups of raw, organic corn
  • 1 cup of coconut water (I recommend Taste Nirvana but any coconut water is fine)
  • Pinch of garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cilantro (for garnish)

Add all ingredients except for the cilantro to a high speed food processor. Blend until all ingredients are mixed and the consistency is smooth. Move completed soup to a bowl and microwave or heat on the stove (raw vegans can refrain from heating). I usually make it for work so I add it directly into a container as seen in the photo above.Garnish completed soup with cilantro and enjoy!

There you have it. A quick and delicious soup recipe that will make your mouth water and it's compromise free!

Northeast Vegan Chow Down - Arnolds Raw Food Cafe

As a vegan living in Philadelphia and working in Lansdale, the commute can sometimes put strain on the amount of time I have to prepare dinner or even lunch during the work week. In fact, there are days when I walk through the door at 7:00pm and putting together a lunch for the next day is the absolute last thing on my mind.

About two years ago I was searching Lansdale for a place that served inexpensive, vegan food and that is when I found Arnolds Raw Food Café. Located on Main street in Lansdale, Arnolds offers a wide menu of raw vegan options. As a repeat customer I have tried several menu options over the last two years such as the banana whip, pizza and my personal favorite, the avocado sandwich. I can honestly say that each and every option has flavorful and addicting, making vegan eating not only easy but delicious!

Forget to pick up something at the store? In addition to Arnolds extensive menu, the café also works as a small shop. Vegan books, raw grocery items and even raw chocolate candy can be purchased during a visit.

The thing that really sets Arnolds apart from not only the raw vegan restaurants but most restaurants however, is the fact that they offer free food to convert non-vegans. Yes, you heard me correctly! Arnolds has been known to offer free food throughout the year in order to prove the effectiveness of a raw, vegan diet. Most recently in fact, the café offered free food for thirty days during the month of December 2014.

During December, any customers interested in trying a raw vegan lifestyle could purchase one green smoothie and one entrée each day. The requirements included attending three to four transformational classes at Arnolds Way Café, eating vegetarian for a month and eating at the café for at least twenty days. Once the requirements were met at the end of the month, each participant received a $99 credit to the café.

What makes this concept wonderful isn't just the free food (although that is a huge plus) but that Arnolds is so passionate about the importance of a raw diet that they actually choose to give it away. This is a huge testament to the high quality of the raw food offered in this establishment and shows how much they really do believe in their product.

Arnolds is open seven days a week (hours included below) and is receives 5 out of 5 green thumbs up from Northeast Vegan.
